No. If you follow the instructions, you can install them on your own. Used singularly, the blind is ready to be used out of the box. If you want to group several together, you need to pair them. When you use a singular and already paired blind, plug in the repeater, insert the battery into the remote control and then mount the blind. We recommend performing the pairing before mounting the blinds to the wall or ceiling. It’s ideal to place the blinds on a table when pairing. The blind comes with 1 BRAUNIT rechargeable battery. The battery pack is pre-charged and ready to use, but always make sure that the battery is fully charged before you start.

Pairing

With remote control

Each individual blind is already paired. To steer 1 single blind with the remote control, you don’t need to pair.

Yes, follow these steps to pair additional blinds:

  1. Open the back cover of the open/close remote and find the pairing button.
  2. Briefly press both buttons on the blind. The device is now awake and ready to pair for 2 minutes.
  3. Hold the open/close remote very close to the wireless roller blind that you want to add (no more than 5cm away from the blinds' battery lid).
  4. Press and hold the pairing button for at least 20 seconds on the wireless open/close remote.
  5. A red light will shine steadily on the open/close remote. On your wireless roller blind, a white light will begin to dim and flash until the devices are paired. The blind will roll slightly down and up again when pairing is complete. You can now use your remote to control the blind.

Batteries and recharge

The blind comes with the recharged battery pack. After usage, it takes around 4-5 hours to recharge the battery pack with the IKEA charger.

With an average usage of up and down once per day, a fully charged battery should last 4 to 6 months before needing to be recharged.
As with any battery, the ability to retain charging power will gradually reduce over time.

With an average usage of up and down once per day, the remote battery should last 2 years.
As with any battery, the ability to retain charging power will gradually reduce over time.

You can gently pull KADRILJ or FYRTUR down by hand. If you want to make the blind go up, you'll need to recharge the battery pack for a minimum time in order to steer the blind.
If you want to pull PRAKTLYSING or TREDANSEN down, or if you want to make the blind go up, you'll need to recharge the battery pack for a minimum time in order to steer the blind.
We recommend avoiding draining the battery pack or the remote control so as not to lose the connection.

About the repeater

With remote control
The signal repeater is a necessary part to help control the blind (it will not work otherwise). It helps the blinds and remote control to communicate.

With IKEA Home smart app
The signal improves connectivity and helps the blinds and remote control to communicate.
It is also needed if you want to control your Smart blind via an app. In this case you need to add the TRÅDFRI gateway (sold separately) and download the IKEA Home smart app on your phone (available on iOS or Android).

Troubleshooting for Smart blinds

The Smart blinds are not working, what should I do?

After plugging in the signal repeater for the first time, it might take a few minutes before it starts to communicate with the remote control and blind. This can also happen after a power cut or if the repeater is unplugged. Use the remote to roll the blind up or down. If the blind doesn’t move or the remote isn’t responding, try these four steps:

  • Installing the batteries
  • Charging the battery pack
  • Resetting
  • Pairing

Installing the batteries

  1. Unscrew the back of the remote and press the battery into the slot.
  2. Leave the back open for now; we’ll come back to this when resetting and pairing.
  3. Make sure the battery pack for the blind is in position and that the blind and signal repeater are powered on. Use the remote to roll the blind up or down.
  4. Press the down button on the remote to roll the blind down. If it doesn’t move, try the next step: Charging the battery pack. Rolling the blind down as it is

Charging the battery pack

  1. Open the hatch on the frame of the blind and slide the battery pack out.
  2. Once fully charged, the light will turn off and the battery pack is ready for use.
  3. Disconnect the battery pack and slide it back into position inside the frame. The blind will roll all the way to the top once complete.
  4. Use the remote to roll the blind up or down. If it doesn’t move, try the next step: Resetting

If your blind is still not responding, the battery pack may have lost charge.

  • Open the hatch on the frame of the blind and slide the battery pack out.
