IKEA launches SKOGSDUVA, a new children’s collection inspired by the magical Swedish forest
The collection has 20 didactic, inspiring and practical items to help promote game and fun in the daily life routine with the little ones.
«The SKOGSDUVA collection is inspired by my childhood, when I used to create imaginary worlds outdoors where different animal lived. I hope the products evoke the children’s desire to explore and learn more about nature, even beyond their house door», Malin Gyllensvaan, SKOGSDUVA collection designer.
A lot of the animals that live in the Swedish woods, are unfortunately threatened or in danger of extinction. That is why, IKEA Balearic and Canary Islands is trying to raise awareness among the population about real animals in danger that have inspired the collection. The items have been designed so children learn more about animals and their habits ludically.
In the case of the SKOGSDUVA hedgehog soft toy, as well as in nature, they can turn into a ball thanks to a tactile seal on their belly. Because when hedgehogs feel threatened, they raise their sharp thorns and turn into round and sharp balls to protect their soft bellies. «Although their back seems sharp, their thorns are soft and, of course, don’t sting», comments Anna Edlundh, Product Design developer at IKEA.
The last IKEA Play 2024 Report showed that only 51% of the children are happy with the amount of time they have to play, and that the 54% of parents would like to have more time to play with their children. Since home is the place where families share most of their time and establish bonds, play has an essential role.
