General Terms and Conditions

What do the guarantees cover?

The extent of the guarantee of each product is described under each product.

Duration of the limited guarantee

The duration of the guarantee depends on the stipulated conditions for each product and it is valid from  the same date of purchase. The products that are not covered by these guarantees will be subject to a standard guarantee of 3 years, with the general conditions established in the guarantee policy.

What will IKEA do to correct the problem?

IKEA will examine the product to decide if it’s covered by the guarantee. IKEA will decide if the defective product will be repaired or replaced it with the same one or one with similar characteristics. In these cases, IKEA will be responsible for the costs of repairs, spare parts, labor and commutes, provided that it is possible to repair the product without incurring in any additional expenses. This will not have validity, under no circumstances, if the repair work hasn’t been authorized by IKEA. The defective parts removed in the course of repair works will become the property of IKEA. If the item is no longer sold by IKEA, IKEA will provide an appropriate replacement. IKEA will decide at its discretion, what will constitute an appropriate replacement.

Guarantee Conditions

The guarantees are valid from the date of purchase at IKEA. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What is not covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee is not applicable on products which have been saved or stored in an incorrect way, which have been misused or used incorrectly, which have been modified or altered, or which have been cleaned with unsuitable products or methods. This guarantee does not cover a regular wear, cuts, scratches or damages caused by impacts or accidents. This guarantee is not applicable if the product has been place outdoors or in a humid environment. This guarantee does not cover consequential or incidental damages. This guarantee will not apply if the products have been used for public use, except those cases in which the product specifies that it is apt for public use.

Daily life at home demands a lot from sofas and armchairs. Our armchairs have been rigorously tested to comply with the quality and durability standards, as well as to comply with the most demanding requirements for domestic use. For this reason, we can offer a 10 and 25 years guarantee that covers defects in materials and manufacture covering the structures and cushions of our sofas.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The sofas guarantee has a validity of ten (10) and twenty-five (25) years of guarantee from the date of purchase. The original receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What does this guarantee cover?

This guarantee is only applicable to a domestic use and covers defects in materials and manufacturing on: structures and seat and back cushions.

10 years of guarantee on the following products:

  • All sofas, sofa beds, armchairs and footstools, excluding those of natural fibers, covers and PÖANG cushions.

25 years of guarantee on the following products:

  • STOCKHOLM sofa.

Products/parts/components not covered by this guarantee:

  • Fabric covers.
  • Leather covers.
  • Coated fabric covers (nonremovable).
  • Armchairs and footstools of natural fiber such as AGEN, ULRIKSGBERG, ALSEDA, BUSKBO, GRÖNADAL and RÅDVIKEN.
  • POÄNG cushions.
  • POÄNG children's armchair.

We try our sofas and armchairs

At IKEA we try all our sofas and armchairs to be sure that they are durable. And we are specially demanding with those that have many years of guarantee. For example, we place a weight of 100 kg on the seat 50.000 times, and weights of 30 kg on the back of it the same number of times. And we do all of this to ensure that the structures will keep their stability and the cushions their elasticity and comfort. The guarantees we offer are proof that our sofas and armchairs can withstand being used frequently and during a long period of time, and are an assurance for you as a customer.

Care instructions

Cushions must be cared for so they keep their comfort. They must be fluffed in a regular basis, at least once a month. They also must be alternated, in a way that the cushions that are used the most interchange their place with those that are used less frequently.
Tighten the screws of the legs after two weeks of use, and make sure that they remain tight by checking twice a year.

Washable covers

  • Follow the maintenance and cleaning instructions.
  • Iron them while they are still a little bit damp.
  • Place the cover again when it is still a little bit damp, it stretches more easily and adapts quickly to the right shape. But it is important that the cover is not too damp when it is placed on the structure again.

Leather

  • Vacuum regularly with the soft brush accessory.
  • Do not place the leather furniture in direct sunlight and leave a space of 12" to any source of heat to avoid the lather from drying.
  • Never use detergents when cleaning them.
  • The white leather or light color furniture are sensitive to strong colors such red wine or coffee. For this reason they need to be cleaned immediately.

Care instructions

Tighten the screws after two weeks of using the product, and make sure they are well tightened by revising them twice a week. For all surfaces: Clean it with a damp cloth with a mild cleanser. Then clean with a dry cloth.

MATTRESSES

This means that we can offer you a 25 years guarantee that covers mattresses and bases from defects in materials and manufacture.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee for mattresses and bed components that are not electrical motors have a validity of twenty-five (25) years from the date of purchase. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What does this guarantee cover?

This guarantee covers defects in material and workmanship in the following components of the mattresses and/or bed bases from the date of purchase at IKEA. This guarantee applies to domestic use only.

Before using it for the first time

This guarantee is not applicable to mattress toppers and children’s mattresses, in these cases, a standard 3-year guarantee applies from the date of purchase.

Before using it for the first time

At the beginning your new mattress can seem a bit hard. Let a month go for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body. Rolled up mattresses recover their shape after 3-4 days of use. All new materials have their own particular smell, that disappears gradually. Airing and vacuuming of the mattress will help to get rid of the smell. For a better comfort, you need the right pillow. Make sure you have a pillow that adapts to you and your new mattress.

Care and cleaning

Complement the mattress with a mattress protector or a mattress topper. It will make it more hygienic as it is easier to remove and clean. Some mattresses and mattress pads have a washable cover, read the label that you can find inside the cover for more information. Make sure that the zip is closed when washing the cover. Vacuuming the mattress helps to get rid of dust and mites. Use upholstery soap to get rid of stains.
If your mattress can be turned around, turn it every three months more or less. This way you guarantee a more homogeneous wear and helps to prolong comfort.
Do not bend the mattress. You could damage the springs and the inside materials.
Even the best mattresses lose comfort over time and all mattresses accumulate dust and mites over the years.
This guarantee offers you specific legal rights, additional to the statutory legal rights.

89 nights to change policy

It is important for us that you sleep well on your new mattress. If you discover that it doesn't completely satisfy you, after waiting one month for the body to get used to the mattress, bring us the new mattress and try a new one. You have 89 nights to sleep on it!
*Except mattress toppers and children’s mattresses.
In order to change the mattress, it must not show any signs of stains or dirt. No money refund will be made on used or opened mattresses.

PAX/KOMPLEMENT

Assemble the wardrobe following the assembly instructions and secure the structure by fixing it to the wall. Remember that different types of wall need different types of restraints. The guarantee only applies to domestic use and covers all defects of materials and manufacture of all wash-basins and faucets. Our products have been tested to comply with international standards and only the best materials are used to ensure our 10 year guarantee compromise.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee for KASKER quartz countertops and SKARARP ceramic countertops is valid for twenty-five (25) years and is valid from purchase. The original simplified purchase receipt will be required as proof of purchase.

What does the guarantee cover?

This guarantee is applicable to KASKER quartz countertops destined to two-dimensional applications that are installed with a permanent character in the interior of the house (or property destined to a use different to housing) of the final customer or user of the product. It is also applicable to SKARARP ceramic countertops that have always remained at the original property of the buyer from the time the authorized installer installed them. In this countertops this guarantee covers:

  • The formation of cracks due to the exposure to extremely high and low temperatures, as well as caused by a thermal shock.
  • Stains caused by the most usual food, drinks and house products, as long as the customers have followed the proper care and maintenance instructions.
  • The tarnishing due to direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV), both inside and outside.
  • This guarantee covers all SKARARP products used in barbecues, chimneys and any type of surfaces exposed to heat, provided that the indications in the installation manual are strictly followed.
The present guarantee is conditioned to the struct observation on the part of the customer of the use and maintenance instructions.
 

What is not covered by this guarantee?

With respect to KASKER quartz countertops, this guarantee does not cover:

  • Damages derived from misuse, including, although not limited to the use of the product for purposes that are not their own; using the product is a way that does not respect the technical or security norms applied; non-compliance with the care and maintenance instructions; and exposure of the product to the exterior of buildings
  • Natural disasters, damages caused by the interaction of other products or any other cause that is out of IKEA's control. Variations in color and/or tone that derive from the natural evolution of the different components of the product.
  • Cracks in the countertop after installation. Therefore, cracks in the final products are not considered a defective material. The main causes of the appearance of cracks are improper movement, the application of heat on the surface, the placement of excessive weight on the countertop or as a result of hitting the material after its installation.
  • Within the definition of manufacturing defects covered by this guarantee durability is not included, during all its validity period, of accessory benefits of the own functionality of the product.
  • Chipping. Chipping is not caused by a defective material but as the result of scratching and hitting objects on the borders of the product.
  • It is expressly excluded from this guarantee any consequential or unforeseen damage, loss or expense apart from the product itself, including, with an illustrative character and not exclusive, damages to other products, installations or additional or supplementary repairs relative to plumbing, electric work or masonry that are, in their case, necessary to repair or replace the product, covered by this guarantee, that will be of sole responsibility of the customer.
  • Equally, from the present guarantee are excluded prejudices that, in their case, could be generated from the appearance of the covered defect, including those that are generated during the process of presentation and processing of the complaint, as well as during the period of time during which the replacement is done. This exclusion extends, with an illustrative character, to all prejudice, including loss of profit, that could be generated in commercial, mercantile, industrial, professional activities, or merely housing activities, that the customer, product acquirer or third party could suffer.
  • Any problem or damage derived from the exposure of the product to intensive and continuous use during long periods of time: including, among others, color fading, loss and decline of features and aesthetic characteristics.
  • Problems, damages or inconveniences derived from the generation of static electricity or from the use of products intended to remove or reduce its effects.
  • Damages that are brought because of deficiencies or omissions of the technical projects in base of which the buildings where the IKEA products are placed are executed.
  • Equally excluded are the differences between samples and photographs from any IKEA product and the real bought products. Are excluded as well those stains produced by components specific to the material and defect in polishing, as IKEA in no case commercializes products that for any reason present these defects.
  • This guarantee will lose its validity in the case of repairs and/or manipulations to the product without the due verification of IKEA.
With regard to SKARARP countertops, this guarantee does not cover:
  • The defective or inadequate conditioning or installation.
  • Any damage caused by third parties that are not related to IKEA, as for example, those problems caused by the incorrect preparation or finish or the product, inadequate installation methods or by any type of modification or manipulation of the original product.
  • The formation of cracks on the ultra-compact surface due to a interaction or external force, as impacts, irregular cabinets or floors, settling or structural movements, an inadequate installation or other existing conditions in the house that could provoke the movement of the surfaces. For this reason, the formation of cracks and the shattering due to impact of heavy objects and the movement, displacement or settling of the support structure under the surface of the countertop (kitchen cabinets, etc.) are not covered by this guarantee.
  • This guarantee does not cover indirect or fortuitous damages, as well as losses or expenses external to the product. The former includes, by way of illustration, the damage caused by other products or installations and the additional repairs and modifications; as for example, fixes of plumbing, electricity, tiling or wall cladding and masonry, the repair of the subfloor or the necessary preparations to repair or replace the surfaces covered by this limited guarantee. All these repairs and modifications will be responsibility of the customer.
  • This guarantee does not cover products that have been treated with chemical agents or covered by coatings if those chemical agents or coatings are not authorized. If IKEA determines, in its sole discretion, that the applying of non-authorized chemical products or coatings has provoked the defects in the products or contributed to their appearance, it will remain free of any conformity obligation with this guarantee.
  • This limited guarantee does not apply if the products have not been fully credited.
  • This guarantee does not cover products exposed to an abnormal use or conditions or its improper use. "Abnormal use or conditions" includes, in an illustrative way, the damages caused by the inadequate manipulation or improper use, the non-authorized use of chemical products or physical elements and the non-compliance of the adequate care and maintenance indications; in detail, the maintenance or the damage related to shattering, the formation of cracks, the damages by impact the breakage due to improper use by the customer.
  • SKARARP countertops aim to provide a natural and uniform look; for this reason this limited guarantee does not cover variations in color, tone, granular structure or brightness.
  • This guarantee does not cover products that, you as a client, do not like after the installation due to color, style, style of the edges or other aspects depending on your personal opinion.
  • This guarantee does not cover the result or appearance of grains.
  • This guarantee does not cover wear marks on the ceramic countertop, which includes, in an illustrative way, metal marks, fingerprints or stains and other wear marks caused by domestic tools.
  • Commercial uses of ceramic countertop are excluded from this guarantee. Commercial uses include, in an illustrative way, the use in commercial buildings, such as stores, restaurants, offices, hotels or apartment complexes.
  • IKEA is not responsible for the damage or deterioration caused, in its totality ot in part, by force majeure circumstances (which include, in an illustrative way, earthquakes, tornado, tropical storms and hurricanes), exposure to corrosive pollutants (including, in an illustrative way, salty water or chemical products present in rain water), fires, flooding, explosions, improper storing or manipulation, site conditions, architectural and technical or structural settling, vandalism acts or accidents; as well as no other external cause our of their control.
  • The present guarantee excludes any additional damage that may be caused by a covered defect, which includes the damaged caused during the period in which the guarantee claimed is being processed, as well as during the replacement period of the product. This exclusion includes, in an illustrative way, all prejudice that could be generated to commercial, industrial, professional or daily life activities that the buyer or a third party could suffer.
  • The differences that are found when comparing the samples and photographs of any countertop with the specific product that is bought will not be covered by this guarantee.
  • This guarantee will lose its validity in the case of repairs or manipulations done to the product without the IKEA'S due verification.
  • This guarantee does not cover surface pieces where some piece/plaster/enamel/paint has detached. The pieces that have detached are not due to a defective material, but are the result of scratching or hitting with objects the borders of the product.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee of IKEA kitchen is valid for ten (10) years from the date of purchase. The original receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What does this guarantee cover?

10 years of guarantee for all IKEA faucets. This guarantee only applies to a domestic use and covers faults in the materials and manufacturing of all faucets. Our kitchen faucets are tested under international standards and we only use very good quality components to ensure the 10 years guarantee.
10 year guarantee for all IKEA faucets, except LAGAN.
3 years guarantee for the LAGAN faucet.

Which products are not covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover LAGAN traps or the logical deterioration over time, cuts or scratches, or damages caused by accidents or waste of water. The filter does not apply either, it must be cleaned regularly and replaced once it's worn out..

Appliances

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee is valid for three (3) to five (5) years from the time of purchase of the appliance. The receipt is required as proof of purchase. If any service work is carried out during the limited guarantee period, this will not extend the limited guarantee period for the appliance, or the new components.

What does this guarantee cover?

The guarantee covers the faults of the kitchen appliance that has been caused by faults in manufacturing or materials from the moment of the purchase. This guarantee it's applicable for domestic use. The exceptions are specified under what is not covered by the guarantee.

Which appliances are covered under this limited guarantee?

The five (5) year guarantee is valid for all IKEA kitchen appliances and covers the faults in materials and manufacturing.

What appliances does this guarantee not cover?

3 year guatantee for the LAGAN and TILLREDA series.
5 year guarantee valid for the rest of the IKEA kitchen appliances (except LAGAN and TILLREDA).

What appliances are not covered by this guarantee?

No exceptions.
 

What does IKEA do to correct the problem?

EU (Nr. 99/44/EG) European guidelines and local regulations are applied on these conditions. The replacement is carried out by IKEA. If the service company repairs or replaces the appliance under the terms of guarantee, this company will install any new or repaired appliance. The reparation is carried out if possible. If the appliance is installed in any other furniture, the customer must uninstall before the visit of the service.

Who will carry out the service?

The service company will provide the service according to their operative or a service network.

What is not covered by the guarantee?

  • Deliberate or negligent damage, damage caused by failure to observe operating instructions, incorrect installation or by connection to the wrong voltage, damage caused by chemical or electro-chemical reaction, rust, corrosion or water damage including by excessive lime in the water supply, damage caused by abnormal environmental conditions. Consumable parts as batteries and lighting.
  • Non-functional and decorative parts which do not affect normal use of the appliance, including any scratches and colour differences.
  • Accidental damage caused by foreign objects or substances and cleaning or unblocking of filters, drainage systems or soap build up.
  • Damage to: ceramic or glass accessories, dinnerware and flatware baskets, feed and drainage pipes, lighting, screens, knobs and pipe casings and parts of casings, unless such damages can be proved to be due to production faults.
  • Cases in which the specialist technician does not find the failure
  • Repairs not carried out by our appointed service providers or an authorised service or where non-original parts have been used.
  • Repairs caused by faulty installations.
  • Professional use of the appliance.
  • Transportation damages. If a customer transports the product to their home or other address, IKEA is not liable for any damage that may occur during transport.   • Cost for the initial installation of the appliance. These restrictions do not apply to the work made by a specialist that uses original parts to adapt the appliance to security specifications.

Legality area

For appliances that are bought in a UE country and taken to another the guarantee conditions of that country will apply. Duty to present service exists if the appliance installed is in accordance to:

  • The technical specifications of the country where the complaint is made.
  • The assembly and installation instructions and the security information that comes with the appliance.

General conditions

What does this guarantee include?

The scope of the guarantee for each kitchen assembly and installation service hired with IKEA.

Duration of the guarantee

Each guarantee lasts 3 years after the completion of the kitchen assembly or installation.

What will IKEA do to solve the problem?

KEA will examine the kitchen assembly or installation service to decide if it is under guarantee. If so, IKEA will decide whether to repair the defective service or decline due to misuse. In such cases, IKEA will be responsible for the repair costs, additional parts, labor and travel expenses incurred by the IKEA staff if the product is repairable without IKEA incurring extraordinary expenses to access it. This does not apply to cases where the repair has not been authorized by IKEA. Any defective parts removed during the repair will become property of IKEA in the event the customer is not interested in the part. In the event that the item is no longer being sold by IKEA or the product has been discontinued, IKEA will provide a replacement of equal value or features. You can request specific documentation for discontinued items at Customer Service.

Guarantee conditions

Guarantees are valid from the moment the kitchen installation or furniture assembly service is completed. The invoice, either printed or digital, must be shown as proof of purchase and identification of the holder. In the event of guarantee redemption (first time and consecutives), its term does not lead to renewal, and the remaining term will be honored retroactively to the date indicated in the purchase invoice.
In the case of resale or third party buyers, the guarantee period that comes with the good does not renew, the remaining period will be honored, retroactive to the date indicated on the purchase invoice of the first consumer or buyer.

Exceptions

Follow the care instructions carefully. Guarantees do not apply to products that have been improperly stored either by an unauthorized service provider or by the customer or in cases where storage has not been performed by IKEA, the product has been used improperly, abused, altered, or cleaned with unsuitable methods or products. Guarantees do not cover natural wear and tear, moisture, cuts, scrapes or scratches, or any damage caused by impact, shock or accident.

In order to benefit from these guarantees, you must follow the specific maintenance, use, care and cleaning instructions of each product.
